"Greg, someone called today to ask if I knew anything about your classes. I told her our son Caleb had attended your Anatomy and Physiology Camp a few years ago. He loved it so much, he raised his own money to attend the advanced camp and as a biologist, I thought it was absolutely outstanding myself. I told her I highly recommend Landry Academy!"
Hal and Melanie Young

These camps provide a learning environment that gives students an academic and skill set advantage. It also enables them to meet and spend a week with other students who have similar interests.

Camps are lead by Christians who have expertise in their fields and are great teachers.

June 9 - 15, 2013 Camps

Camp Chemistry (1 Year of Chemistry Labs in 1 Week)
Dates: June 9 - 15, 2013
Leader: Matt Mizesko

Description: We'll perform the labs typically covered in a year-long high school chemistry class. Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Whether you realize it or not, chemistry is happening all around you, every day: on your stove top, in your furnace, even in your body. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical and anywhere there is matter and energy there is chemistry at work. Understanding chemistry will help you understand the world around you better.

Camp Chemistry takes a hands-on approach to teaching students about the world around them and will cover most material seen in a High School chemistry lab including matter and energy, atomic structure, the Periodic Table, molarity, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, solubility, phase changes and acid/base chemistry. Some of the labs we will be doing include Hollow Pennies, Making Gold, Eating Iron, Acid/Base Reactions and Solubility Comparisons. There are no prerequisites for this camp.

Camp Mock Trial / Pre-Law

There are no prerequisites for this camp.

Camp Psychology
Dates: June 9 - 15, 2013
Leader: Daniel Smith

Description: This camp is designed for students that want to learn more about themselves, the field of psychology, and the social interactions that shape and define us.

Best of all, all of the concepts we are covering will be taught and studied through a Christian worldview.  It is amazing to see how much God is involved in psychology, if we will simply open our eyes and let Him in!  This camp is perfect for students who have an interest in psychology, or just those that want to prepare for college and the social science courses they will encounter there.  This camp will be very active, engaging, hands-on, and promises to make you think!  I currently teach full-time at a North Carolina community college, part-time at a university, and part-time at Landry Academy, but I have also had nine years of high school experience; I want to help bridge the gap between high school and college.

The primary focus of the week will be on:

*Psychological methods, as students will create their own hypotheses and then use an experimental approach to test them

*Psychological disorders and treatment methods, as we use a clinical, DSM-based approach to understand the world of abnormal psychology

*What creates and shapes our personality, as we will explore (and take) personality tests and inventories, while analyzing each of them

*Social psychology, as we research and design our own studies to see the impact others have on our lives

*Motivation and what truly drives our decision-making

There are no prerequisites for this camp.

Description: Students will collaborate in the design and implementation of a video game. From whiteboard sketch to computer screen, they will learn how to create the simple, easy-to-understand components of a game, and how those simpler parts combine to make a more-complex whole. They will learn about the tools that game developers use to create games, and how to prioritize and trim their initial design to meet a looming deadline.

Working as a team, the students will create a working game from their concept, and demonstrate that game to the other campers at the end of the week. Towards the end of the week, students will participate in "lab time", where they are encouraged to identify and implement changes to the class game to put their own personal touches on the project. This helps ensure that the students understand the material that was covered well enough to venture out on their own.

While there are no prerequisites for this camp, each student MUST bring their own laptop which runs some version of Windows (XP/Vista/7). A MacBook may be used, but it will need to have a copy of Windows running in a virtual machine (e.g. Parallels or VMWare) or BootCamp. All course materials and requisite software will be provided.
